Yes the qualifications are free and are a by-product of being a cadet. In addition to all the great activities we look at a wide range of subjects from map reading to jet engines and radio operating to shooting.  The qualification comes simply because you have done the work as part of being a cadet. The BTEC qualification is equivalent to several  Standard Grades depending on how far you decide you want to go and is the result of achieving Staff Cadet

We do First Aid, Flying Scholarships, Gliding Scholarships, Millenium Volunteer Awards, Duke of Edinburgh Award and BTEC. Most of BTEC can be achieved just by doing the cadet syllabus. The table below shows the various subjects of the Air Cadet Syllabus. We aim not to be an extension of school - far from it . You will progress at a rate that suits you. We will give you encouragement but if you want to stop - well that is up to you. But the more you achieve the more of the Air Cadet activities you can access.

Flying Gliding and the rest

If you are succesful in your application you will get taught to fly a powered aircraft of fly a glider for free. It costs you nothing everything is paid for and we estimate that including your accommodation and travel the course is worth well in excess of £2500 if you do a flying scholarship.
