Welcome to the website of 2180 (Galashiels) Squadron Air Training Corps - The Air Cadets.

The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a uniformed, air related, national youth organisation, which encourages a practical interest in aviation, adventure and sport as well as providing training which will be useful to young people, especially those interested in a career in aviation and in the Services.

Such training builds self-confidence and knowledge, which in turn develops leaders and good citizens.
The organisation is open to boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18, and centres around local Squadrons of between 20 and 50 cadets.

2180Squadron carries out regular meetings and training on 2 evenings a week -  Monday and Wednesday - between 18:45 and 21:00 Hours, with other activities carried out at weekends.

The Aims of the Air Training Corps are:
  • To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
  • To provide training which will be useful in the Services as well as civilian life.
  • To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

ATC History

The Air Training Corps (ATC) was formed by Royal Warrant in 1941 and sprang from the Air Defence Cadet Corps, founded in 1938 by the Air League.

lthough initially formed to meet the needs of a nation at war, the Corps continues to thrive as it enters the 21st Century. An Air Cadet Unit has existed in Galshiels since 1941. We also had a presence in Selkirk, Hawick, Melrose and Peebles.
