2180 (Galashiels) Squadron is also thriving and is one of the largest and most dynamic Squadrons in the Edinburgh & South Scotland Wing. We participate in activities at Squadron, Wing, Scottish and UK and International level . We fly, we glide, we shoot, we play sports, we raise funds for charity and we support the local community in and around Galashiels.
Air Cadets aged 13 to 20 are given the chance by our team of staff and volunteers to learn to fly, develop skills to lead expeditions, visit foreign countries, become target shooting marksmen/women, join a band and learn about aviation and aerospace matters. This is only a small list of the many activities and opportunities available in the Air Cadets all whilst making new friends.
Recently cadets from Galashiels have visted, Northern Ireland, Germany , Gibraltar, Cyprus and Turkey as well as many RAF Stations within the UK. Our Cadets regularly fly in RAF aircraft and have flown in the Puma, Tucano, Beech 200, Nimrod, VC10, Gazelle, Squirrel, Islander, Tutor, Sea King, Antonov 2 and both Viking and Vigilant Gliders.

We offer a range of sports including Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Football, Target Shooting and Athletics. Galashiels Air Cadets have represented our Squadron, Wing Region and Corps and some of our Cadets are UK Champions in their chosen sport.
Above all we offer a wide range of interesting, enjoyable, fun activities. You can join 2180 Squadron if you are between 13 and 17 years of age. There are also opportunities for adults to become involved in helping to deliver our aims, objectives and activities.
Apart from one historical picture all of what you will see and read about on this website involves cadets and staff from 2180 (Galashiels) Squadron. We have stories to tell and adventures and experiences to offer young people - we don't need stock pictures or manufactured stories.
